Sovereign Self-Hosting Guide

Vault24 supports 100% offline usage and self-hosted private deployments. Using our Docker configurations, you can run your own secure, zero-knowledge credentials sync node using local SQLite databases and local filesystem attachments—keeping your sensitive credentials and files fully sovereign on your hardware.

Prerequisites

  • Install Docker and Docker Compose on your host machine.
  • Ensure ports 8080 (Frontend) and 8000 (Backend) are available.

Step 1: Save Configuration files

In your project root, create a file named docker-compose.yml to run the database-sovereign local backend and Nginx web server:

version: '3.8'

services:
  backend:
    image: python:3.11-slim
    build:
      context: ./backend
      dockerfile: Dockerfile
    container_name: vault24-backend
    ports:
      - "8000:8000"
    environment:
      - APP_ENV=development
      - JWT_SECRET=change-this-to-a-secure-random-key-for-your-vault
    volumes:
      - ./vault.db:/app/vault.db
      - ./vault.db_r2_mock:/app/vault.db_r2_mock
    restart: unless-stopped

  frontend:
    image: nginx:alpine
    container_name: vault24-frontend
    ports:
      - "8080:80"
    volumes:
      - ./frontend:/usr/share/nginx/html:ro
    restart: unless-stopped

Step 2: Start your Sovereignty Node

Open your terminal in the root directory and start your private sync engine:

docker compose up -d --build

Step 3: Point Client to Private Server

Open the Vault24 app, log in, navigate to Settings, and find the Private Sync Server Configuration card. Enter your server IP/domain and click Save. The client will reload and immediately interact with your local SQLite backend.

Note: You can also override the API server globally by setting the VAULT_BACKEND_URL in local storage via the DevTools console: localStorage.setItem('VAULT_BACKEND_URL', 'http://YOUR_SERVER_IP:8000').
